You know those times when your skin is pretty much at its absolute worst and you are in desperate need of a miracle? Yeah well last week I reached that point in my life. The month of April was pretty much the most stressful month ever as I was completing my degree. Naturally, with this stress came a very unhealthy diet and a lack of exercise. So other than the inevitable weight gain, my skin also received some pretty ugly side effects. It was dry, spotty, cracked and pretty much anything else you can think of. I knew I needed a solution and I needed it fast. So after junk watching Youtube skincare videos, I jumped straight online and purchased The Ordinary Lactic Acid with 10% strength. Results? Perfection.
I am not going to lie, this product well and truly stinks, I mean seriously it smells disgusting but it is so worth it. The lactic acid is an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) that is designed to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. AHAs are the craze in skincare right now as the natural/manufactured fruit sugars not only helps to soften but they also have anti-anging benefits as they increase blood flow to the skin. Now with any acid, one has to be careful with usage as too much can lead to irritation, which can go on to peel the top layer of the skin. I am not one who often follows directions when it comes to the beauty world, I typically just throw it on my face and hope for the best. However, when dealing with acids, I strongly recommend referring to the directions on the bottle. As I picked up the 10%, the bottle recommends using it once a day. If you have more sensitive skin, it would probably be more beneficial to use every other day or when your skin is in need of a little extra TLC. The Ordinary also sell a 5%, for a milder exfoliation.
Okay, so now I am done rambling on with my very basic science knowledge, time for the actual review. As I have already said, this time last week, my skin was in a pretty bad way. However, after the first use I noticed an immediate change. Not only was skin softer but the redness and the puffiness had also begun to decrease. After a week of using it once a day, I can safely say my skin is back to its normal self. Now obviously because this is an acid, there is a slight sting when first applied, however this quickly goes.
This product retails for £6 on Asos and you receive a 30ml bottle. Overall I would strongly recommend this product for anyone who needs to quickly revitalise his or her skin. If you have a more sensitive skin type, then I would recommend purchasing the 5% strength as it will give the same effects but it will be a little gentler on the skin.
